Counseling Services

I’m Olja Haglund, a therapist partnering with people in Grand Rapids, MI to discover healthier ways to face life’s challenges.

I understand that before you schedule a visit, you may want to get to know me and my practice a little better. On this page, you’ll find basic information about what to expect from working with me and the services I provide.

What Happens During Therapy Sessions?

This is by far the most frequently asked question I hear from my clients. While every person’s therapy sessions will be different, depending on their goals, I tell people that counseling appointments are like scheduled chats with a trusted advisor. You will visit my office, a 100% judgement-free and stress-free zone, to discuss challenges and life changes you’re dealing with, past experiences that are holding you back, and whatever else you want to discuss. Our sessions should help you achieve greater self-awareness, develop coping skills, and generally lead a more satisfying life. I work with individuals and couples, including premarital counseling, in my Grand Rapids practice.

Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety plays a crucial role in our daily lives. The flipping stomach, racing heart, and whirring thoughts associated with anxiety can actually help us to perform at a higher level and keep you safe in dangerous situations. However, when the anxiety that helps us to put on a great play or do well in a job interview starts to control our smallest choices, it can be a real problem. If your anxiety is making many of life’s choices for you, I can help you to take back control and relieve this unnecessary and unwanted stress.

Depression Treatment

We can all feel sad, unmotivated, and even hopeless during difficult times. When these emotions are persistent, out of proportion to your situation, or have no underlying cause, it can make accomplishing daily tasks a real struggle. Depression is more than sadness. It is a weight that presses down on the mind and body, keeping you from being the complex, functional, and fulfilled person who you truly are. The good news is therapy can help take some of that weight away and let you feel like yourself again.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) & Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

Trauma comes in many forms. While most people immediately think of military men and women, police officers, and others who frequently witness or experience violence when they hear trauma or PTSD, anyone can go through trauma. If you’re struggling to heal following a traumatic event, let’s talk about how therapy can help you move beyond this distressing experience to lead a full and thriving life. CBT and MBCT are two different counseling approaches that are based on similar explorations of how we experience the world. CBT asks individuals to reflect on how their thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected and how making changes in one of these areas can influence the entire complex reality of experience. MBCT combines a CBT approach to therapy with mindfulness, focus on the awareness of your present moment and acceptance of current feelings, thoughts, and sensations. In combination with talk therapy, mindfulness practices, like meditation, are proven helpful for individuals who struggle with chronic depression, anxiety, and other disordered moods.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
